Hobbies & Interests

Life beyond the lab — things I enjoy, explore, and find meaningful outside of research.

I believe a well-rounded life makes for a better researcher. Here are some of the things that keep me curious, active, and grounded outside of work.

🥾
Hiking & Outdoors
I love getting out into nature — whether it's a short trail near campus or a multi-day backcountry adventure. Some of my best ideas happen on the trail.
📚
Reading
Anything from science fiction and speculative fiction to popular science and history. I keep a reading list and am always happy to swap recommendations.
🎸
Music
I play [instrument] and enjoy everything from [genre] to [genre]. Music is my go-to way to decompress after a long day in the lab.
🧗
Rock Climbing
Bouldering and sport climbing — the problem-solving aspect maps surprisingly well to research. I climb at the local gym a few times a week.
🍳
Cooking
Cooking is part science, part art. I enjoy experimenting with new cuisines and perfecting old favorites. Ask me about my best recipe!
🎲
Board Games & Puzzles
Strategy games, cooperative games, and good old puzzles. Great for keeping the brain sharp and spending quality time with friends.
✈️
Travel
Conferences take me to interesting places, but I try to extend each trip to explore the local culture, food, and history.

Photography
Amateur landscape and street photographer. I document my travels and hikes — it helps me slow down and notice details I'd otherwise rush past.
